My accomplishment this month was completing the prompts for the Anti-Brainrot Reading Challenge! All my reads are on Storygraph if you’re curious, but these were my highlights:
- Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts by Rebecca Hall 🇺🇸
This one made me cry at the injustice and how honest Dr. Hall is about the toll that her research took on her. It’s worth reading. Graphic memoir will always be one of my fave media. - Forever… by Judy Blume 🇺🇸
I can’t believe this was published in 1975 and it mentions IUDs!!! It deserves its place in the modern classics for its exploration of firsts: kisses, love, sex, and all those bring with them. - All of Us in Our Own Lives by Manjushree Thapa 🇳🇵
When I was looking for a book set in South Asia, I didn’t expect to end up in Nepal, but I enjoyed the peek into life struggles in Nepal, especially with connections to Canada and Filipinos in Dubai. - Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia 🇲🇽 🇨🇦
I was scared of this book for so long but I finally read it in the bright sun of summer! I was thoroughly squicked, not convinced by the romance, yet still thinking about the rich allegory. It would make for an interesting book club discussion. - Cannon by Lee Lai 🇦🇺 🇨🇦
Last fall, I was seeing this cover everywhere and I’m glad my book club got me to read it with the wonderful bonus of actually getting to discuss it with thoughtful folks. A very Montreal experience!
I’m only three books away from completing the 2026 Read Harder Challenge, so I may pick up the 2026 Fully Booked reading challenge for the rest of the year, but only if it supports my goal to bring my BIPOC-white author ratio closer to 50-50 (or more BIPOC). I can already hear some friends being like, girl do you need another challenge?? And to y’all I say, yes, I like the direction it provides, and I promise to veto the ones that don’t serve me.

My media journal continues to delight, but I don’t have much to yap about here, other than continuing my slooooooow watch of Apothecary Diaries and enjoying the new Game Changer episodes.

- ⚗️ Y’all, it took me TWENTY-FIVE levels in PotionCraft before I realized there’s a skill tree to upgrade your abilities in 😭 So it’s much more fun now!
- 🎲 I tried Warcry for the first time and it did kinda make me want to cry 😿 Warhammer is rough because once you start losing pieces, it gets even harder?! But I would try again because sometimes, it’s just the dice throws that make or break it.

- Knitting: I’m obsessed. It’s completely displaced Hello Kitty gaming time and got me borrowing audiobooks so to accompany the joy of making 🧶
- Wedding: I found my wedding footwear and I am so so so excited!!! 💖 The dress hunt is now on too 🔍
- Phone calls: As much as I love an in-person hangout, spending time together on a call somehow feels like a different kind of delight 🤙🏾
